Innovative Skylights Joins HomeAid Houston in their Environmentally Friendly Remodeling of the Gracewood Residence for Single Mothers
(Houston, TX, July 16, 2010) Innovative Skylights joins local businesses on HomeAid Houston’s Gracewood remodeling project. The collaboration of local builders created a green, environmentally friendly living unit for the Gracewood “House of Promise” project, the newest residence on the Wanda Lane campus’ housing for single mothers in Southwest Houston. The project was recently award the first Gold ANSI (American National Standards) certificate for green remodeling in Texas.
HomeAid Houston is a charitable non-profit organization sponsored by the Greater Houston Builders Association. It identifies long term, stable homeless care providers who need additional capacity and pairs them with GHBA builders, vendors and suppliers who donate their time, materials and labor to help build transitional homeless shelters.
Gracewood is a Houston, Texas, Christian ministry affiliated with Children at Heart Ministry of Round Rock, Texas. Their focus is on long-term quality of life improvements for single mothers and their children. The "House of Promise" was a collaborative a project between Gracewood and HomeAid Houston facilitated by Brothers Strong Construction. It is the first ANSI-approved green remodel in the State of Texas, and hopefully a trend with more to follow.
Innovative Skylights & Attics is a Houston based construction business, focusing on energy efficient lighting, attic ventilation, and attic insulation. "Working with the existing attic was a challenge," states Dan Marshall, President of Innovative Skylights & Attics.
Because the House of Promise project was a remodel rather than new construction, the existing design was retrofitted with the latest progressive energy efficiency features. Dan Marshall provided and helped install several SunRise Solar attic fans and Velux Suntunnels. The SunRise attic fans maximized the airflow in the attic and reduce cooling costs. Get more information on how the SunRise Solar Attic fans work at SolarRoofVent.com. The Velux SunTunnels provided naturally created day lighting in the bathrooms. More information on Velux SunTunnels can be found at www.InnovativeAttics.com.
Mr. Marshall would like to congratulate Brothers Strong and all who were involved in the Gracewood Wanda Lane project and to thank his vendors, Velux America Skylights and SunRise Solar Roof Vents, for their contributions as well.
